Four Tips to Help Ensure Your Waste Oil Heater Performs Its Best This Winter

When temperatures take a nose dive, you don’t want to run the risk that your waste oil heater isn’t up for the challenge.

Proper maintenance of your furnace is essential for making sure it’s at the top of its game when you need it most. Fortunately, Clean Energy Heating Systems’ waste oil furnaces are designed to make maintaining them simple and straightforward.

Here’s an overview of the four essential maintenance tasks and the schedule we recommend for them:

• Clean Oil Canister and Pump Head Screen
  When? Once per Year
  Release oil from the canister and clean the filter screen in a parts washer; clean the pump head screen in a parts washer; install a new pump head gasket.
• Clean Sludge and Water from Tank
  When? Once per Year
  Use a tube to drain the used oil supply tank to ensure no unwanted substances are delivered to the furnace.
• Clean Ash from the Heat Exchanger
  When? Every 1,200 hours of operation
  Brush out and vacuum ash from the combustion chamber, flue tubes, top header, and bottom header.
• Clean the nozzle adapter heat block.
  When? Every 2,000 to 3,000 hours of operation
  Clean the nozzle adapter heat block in a parts washer; use a wire brush to clean the oil ports; use a compressed air gun to blow out passages.
